East End Tour
East End- Learn about Portland's connection with the Salem Witch Trials. Hear stories of Portland's old Italian and Jewish neighborhoods. Hear how Captain Henry Mowatt destroyed Portland in 1775. See the site of Longfellow's birth place. Visit historic churches and synagogues and end up at Portland's East End shops for some unusual gift shopping.
- 2 p.m. Monday thru Saturday.
- Leaves Tommy's Park and ends at the Eastern Cemetery at the foot of Munjoy Hill.
- Cost $10. Children under 6 FREE
Gorham's Corner Tour
Gorham's Corner- hear tales of numbers runners and bootleggers . See The Fraternity House one of the last remaining historic buildings in Gorham's Corner. Actor and playwright Harlan Baker talks about John Ford's films in Ford's own words at the foot of his statue on the corner. Hear about the Great Portland Fire of 1866.
- 10 a.m.Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
- Leaves Tommy's Park on the corner of Middle and Exchange Streets (next to Mark's hot dog stand).
- Tour lasts approximately one hour.
- Cost $10 cash or check. Sorry not set up to do plastic yet.
Dedicating Gorham's Corner as George W. Sullivan Square in honor of the local boy killed in World War Two. There is no sign today. This is near the present site of the John Ford statue.
